Here's What Went Down With CurlMix After Shark Tank

CurlMix Shark Tank pitch

In March 2019, Kim and Tim Lewis had the chance to pitch their company, CurlMix, on the popular ABC show “Shark Tank” during its tenth season. They sought $400,000 for a 10% equity stake in their business. Their main challenge at the time was managing inventory, so they planned to use the investment to purchase new equipment and produce larger batches of their products.

The sharks were impressed with the Lewis’ sales margins, but several of them ultimately dropped out for different reasons. Mark Cuban admitted he didn’t have enough knowledge about the hair care industry. Kevin O’Leary was concerned about CurlMix’s growth potential and the competition in the market. Even beauty expert Lori Greiner decided to bow out, citing similar concerns about competition and her lack of expertise in the space. Guest shark Alli Webb also backed out, expressing reservations due to the competitive nature of the hair care industry.

In a surprising twist, Robert Herjavec was the only shark who made an offer, offering $400,000 for 20% equity in the company. Although nearly half a million dollars and a partnership with a shark is enticing, Kim and Tim Lewis ultimately declined the offer. It’s rare for entrepreneurs to turn down a deal on “Shark Tank,” but for the Lewis family, they felt it was the right decision for their business.
